Adele Lim heads to SXSW for the Lionsgate movie ‘Joy Ride’ world premiere
Exclusive: Deadline has learned of Adele Lim’s feature directorial debut joy ride From Lionsgate will have its world premiere at SXSW on Friday, March 17th at 9pm at the Paramount Theater in Austin, TX.
The Point Grey-produced comedy is slated to hit theaters on June 23.
From its producers neighbor and its co-screenwriter Crazy Rich Asian, joy ride Stars Ashley Park, Sherry Kola, Oscar nominee Stephanie Hu and Sabrina Wu. The film is billed as an unnecessarily obvious story centering on the identity and self-discovery of four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey (Park) gets sidetracked on a business trip to Asia, she enlists the help of Lolo (Kola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Cat (Hu), his college friend-a Chinese soap star; and Dedei (w), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging and wild confusion that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.

The film also marks the SXSW return of Oscar-nominated Hsu, with a breakthrough performance Everything everywhere at all times A cannon exploded on opening night of last year’s SXSW. Lionsgate also made the world premiere of the Nicolas Cage satire The unbearable weight of great talent Great cheers last year.
