Amazon is working on the Joe Burton and Michael Bay bounty hunter drama from A+E Studios
Exclusive: Prime Video is developing an action drama series from film and TV writer Joe Burton and director-producer Michael Bay. The project comes from A+E Studios in association with Range Studios and Amazon Studios.
Created and written by Burton and directed by Bay, the project centers on an American bounty hunter working south of the border who finds himself in a desperate fight for survival when the men he’s chasing both get into trouble with Mexican cartels.
“I was inspired about 5 years ago in Costa Rica, with a former US federal agent who surfed every day, living the good life,” Bay said of the project’s origins. “He supports his fun, relaxed lifestyle in Costa Rica by tracking down ‘bad gringos’ hiding in South America.”
Burton executive produces with Bay and Brad Fuller for Platinum Dunes, Range Media Partners and Wise Entertainment.
“I couldn’t be more excited to partner with Michael Bay and Amazon to bring this thrilling and action-packed show to the screen,” Burton said.
It’s one of two projects set in the world of “Gringo Hunters” to hit the streaming marketplace in the last few months and has been in the works at Amazon for a while. It is running on a parallel track with a thriller drama Imagine developing for Netflix based on television The Washington Post Story “An American murder suspect fled to Mexico. Gringo hunters were waiting,” by Kevin Siff.
Burton, a BAFTA-nominated writer and showrunner, is known for creating and producing crime dramas for the BBC and Netflix. Giri/Haji and Sky/HBO Max’s upcoming sci-fi series The Lazarus Project. He is currently developing a limited series adaptation of Milos Forman’s Oscar-winning film, amadeus, For Sky Atlantic, bypassing US buyers. On the feature side, Barton writes last Cloverfield installment for Paramount Pictures, along with making Bad Robot, and has meeting, starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, can for Netflix. He is repped by Range Media Partners, CAA, Independent Talent Group and Jackway Austin Tyerman.
Bay, one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing directors behind such blockbusters armageddon, The bad boys And Transformer Franchise, the most recently directed thriller ambulance, Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Iza Gonzalez for Universal Pictures and Endeavor Content.
