‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ star Evangeline Lilly says no to Hugh Jackman’s request to do an ‘X-Men’ film
Even Hugh Jackman’s charm wasn’t enough to convince Evangeline Lilly to become an X-Man (or woman, as the case may be). Doing the promotional rounds of his new film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantummaniaLilly revealed that she once turned down Jackman’s pitch to join the X-Men film.

“[He] was like, ‘Hey, so, X is human Guys are asking me if I will contact you because they know you don’t talk to anyone,” she said. “They knew I was working with you and were interested to know if you were interested in doing this X is human thing.”
It didn’t take long for Lily to make up her mind.
“I was like, ‘No. It’s not my interest. I’m not interested,'” she recalls. “I was like, ‘I feel like a dick because I’m talking to an X-Men! The X human! And I tell him, ‘No it doesn’t appeal. Like what?!’ I felt so rude!”
Lily had experienced the superhero turndown. He talked about working with Joss Whedon at one point wonder woman.
“I think that my impression, coming off of it, was that I had no intention and he could tell,” Lilly said of the experience, noting that he at least feigned interest in the idea of being “too young to be polite” to the DC character. .
“It didn’t appeal and there was nothing about the meeting that judged me or made me think, ‘Oh, I have to do this.’ Nothing clicked. Nothing felt good,” she said. “I’m too pure for my own good. I mean, it’s not good. If I’m not impressed, you’ll know. And sometimes you shouldn’t know.”
Lilly said she felt Whedon didn’t like her attitude on the matter. “I was fine with it. I was okay with burning bridges,” he said. “I was okay with not everyone in Hollywood wanting to work with me.”
“I always had to do what felt right for me,” he continued. “And frankly I’m not into superhero movies and that’s the main reason, in both cases, I felt like I didn’t know what I was getting out of it.”
Lilly said she didn’t get superhero movies until her agent asked her to actually check them out.
“I was often very critical of them,” Lilly said. “Like, until Marvel came around I was known to scoff at them and consider them a low form of entertainment.”
He added, “When I did, I was like, ‘Oh, they’re doing something very different and very cool.'”
