Austin Major dies: Former ‘NYPD Blue’ child actor was 27
Austin Majors, a prolific child actor of the 1990s and early 2000s, is best known for his seven-season role as the young son of star Dennis Franz’s detective Andy Sipowicz. NYPD bluedied Saturday in Los Angeles. He was 27 years old.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed his death. (Following his acting career, Majors went by the name Austin Setmazar.)
From 1999 to 2004, a young Theo Sipowicz made guest appearances on such series after portraying the Majors. According to Jim, American Dad!, Desperate Housewives, an accidental Christmas (2007) And How I Met Your Mother. He has also appeared in numerous television commercials.

In a statement released to TMZ by his family — including his younger sister, actress Kali Majors — Austin was described as “a loving, artistic, bright and kind man. Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He is an active Eagle. Was a scout and graduated salutatorian in high school. He graduated from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with an interest in directing and music production.”
The statement continued, “Austin’s younger sister, Kali, said her fondest memories with Austin were growing up with him on set, volunteering at events with Kids with a Cause and backpacking together. The kind of son, brother, grandson and nephew Austin was. That made us proud and we will forever miss him deeply.”
TMZ reported today that Majors died at a homeless shelter after possibly ingesting fentanyl. Deadline did not confirm these details.
