Christine Dolan is the CEO of AMC Networks
The fate of AMC Network has always been determined by its controlling shareholders, the Dolan family, and now Christine Dolan will have a chance to get the ailing programmer back on track.
The wife of executive chairman James Dolan, who has more than three decades of experience as a media and entertainment executive, will take the reins of the company on February 27. She will replace Christina Spade, who lasted just three months into her term last year. Parting ways with the company was James Dolan, who took on a greater role and managed it in the post-Spade era, presiding over a 20% layoff and several programming pullbacks.
Like many of its peers, AMC Networks faced intense pressure from cord-cutters as it sought to build its presence in streaming with a portfolio of specialty services. While the company thrived for years after it split from Cablevision in 2011, it has struggled to make the jump to streaming, behind original hits like The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad and Mad Men. A The Wall Street Journal Reports earlier today said the company had rejected takeover overtures from Roku, Lionsgate and several private equity firms as its valuation fell below $1 billion.
AMC Networks will report quarterly earnings on Friday morning.
Christine Dolan most recently served as CEO of 605, an audience measurement and data analytics firm she founded in 2016. Prior to 605, he spent 16 years at Cablevision in various operating roles, including Chief Operating Officer. The company was later sold to French telecom firm Altice in 2016 for $17.7 billion.
Prior to Cablevision, Dolan held various marketing roles at AMC Networks (then known as Rainbow Media Holdings), including affiliate marketing and distribution, where he began his career in 1989.
James Dolan said in the official announcement, “Christine is a proven executive and operational leader with a track record of driving organizational change, a history of running a subscription-based business, and a deep understanding of audience engagement and advertising. “These are critical areas as we transform our company and monetize our high-quality content. With her considerable experience and knowledge of the company, Christine is the ideal person to lead AMC Networks into its next chapter as we navigate this transformative time in the industry.”
Christine Dolan called it “a privilege to join a company with a long legacy of excellent storytelling and engaging audiences with world-class brands.” He added, “This is also where I started my career
I look forward to bringing my extensive experience—in programming, cable operations, and most recently, using data to reimagine television advertising—to leverage AMC Networks’ strong assets, drive the company’s next phase of growth, and create shareholder value for years to come.”
