‘Everything Everything At Once’ Star Michelle Yeoh On Andrea Riseborough Debate: “If It Was So Easy It Could Have Been Done”

“It could have been done earlier if it was that easy,” Everything everywhere at all times Star Michelle Yeoh spoke about the Andrea Riseborough Oscar controversy this morning.

A last-minute campaign called into question that has Riseborough nominated for $27,000 to LaceyYeh played down any notion that it flouted academy norms.

“The Academy has always prided itself on playing by the rules and by the rules [cheating them] It was so easy it could have been done earlier,” Yeh told the BBC today activities. “We are always evolving how we can protect our integrity and I have every confidence we will continue to do so.”

The Academy examined Riseborough’s Oscar nod, which came after an aggressive campaign by some fellow nominee Cate Blanchett, but refused to withdraw. However, it is pondering whether “a new era of social media and digital communication may require changes to the guidelines”.

Black actress Viola Davis (woman king) and Daniel Deadwiler (up to) But Yeh, who is the first Asian American to be nominated for Best Actress, emphasized how difficult it was to get to this point.

“I love [Viola and Danielle] “Extremely and we all want to get an Oscar but it’s difficult,” he added. “It took me 40 years to even get nominated. Every single actor and actress puts their heart and soul into these movies and you don’t necessarily start out thinking you’re going to get nominated. The stories we want to tell are more important.”

Alongside Blanchett, Yeoh is considered a frontrunner for Best Actress, having impressed with her role as Evelyn Wong in the A24 multiverse thriller The Daniel, which grossed over $100M worldwide and received 11 Oscar nominations.

He emphasized the generational nature of the hit movie and said it helped bring families from immigrant backgrounds back together.

“Different generations come up to me and say ‘I don’t quite understand your film but you started a conversation with my estranged daughter who I haven’t spoken to in two years,'” added Yeoh. “It’s really special.”

She described being nominated for an Oscar after a four-decade career as “quite a journey” and said she “hopes it’s the start of a whole new world” for Asian actresses.
