Idris Elba has clarified his stance on not describing himself as a “black actor”.

Idris Elba followed up with a tweet clarifying why he chose not to refer to himself as a “black actor.”

“There is not a soul in this world that can question whether I consider myself a black man or not,” Suicide Squad tweeted the actor. “Being an ‘actor’ is a profession, like being an ‘architect’, they are not defined by caste. However, if you define your work by your race, that is your prerogative. Ah lie?”

Elba recently confused people after an interview Esquire UK In which he said, ”I stopped describing myself as a black actor when I realized that it put me in a box. We need to increase. We have. Our skin is not more than that: it is just skin. Screaming over.”

In the same interview Luther: Fallen sun The star said he didn’t become an actor “because I didn’t see black people doing it” but “because I thought it was a great profession and I could do a good job at it.”

He continued, “When you go up the ladder, you’re asked how it feels to be the first black person to do this or that. Well, it would be like if I were white. This is for the first time me. I don’t want to be the first black. I am the first Idris.”

It’s clear to Elba that he might be the first person to achieve something like that, adding, “It’s nice to leave as part of my legacy. So that other people, black kids, but also white kids in the situation that I grew up in, could see that there was a kid from Canning Town who ended up doing what I did. It could be.”
