Kanye West works on docs and podcasts for the BBC
The BBC has commissioned a documentary and eight-part podcast exploring the life of Kanye West.
We Need To Talk About Kanye (Working Title) Fronting will be BAFTA award-winning investigative journalist Mobin Azhar, who has also fronted the BBC Battle for Britney Doc
Unfolding against the backdrop of West’s 2024 US election campaign, and at a time when his anti-Semitic comments and behavior have sparked outrage and re-evaluation of his place in popular culture, the standalone documentary seeks to follow Azhar. To understand the complex journey that made the singer one of the most famous and creatively successful artists of his generation.
The feature will be accompanied by an eight-part podcast series titled Kani story The BBC similarly released a feature doc and podcast on Shamima Begum, the British teenager who traveled to Syria to join ISIS before trying to return to Syria and having her citizenship revoked.
We Need To Talk About Kanye will be broadcast on BBC Two and will come from UK producer Bon. It is distributed by Abacus Media Rights. Executive Producers are Katy Sexton and Jez Lee, Producer is Laura Kaye and Producer/Director is Stefan Mattison. The program was hosted by the BBC’s newly appointed head of popular music, Jonathan Rothery.
