‘La La Land’ Broadway musical in the works

Exclusive: A Broadway musical take on 6x Oscar wins, grossing $472M worldwide La La Land is in development, Emmy and Tony Award-winning producer Mark Platt announced today.

Based on the Damien Chazelle-directed movie, the show will be directed by Tony Award and Drama Desk Award-winning director Bartlett Sher, based on a book written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar and three-time Barrymore Award winner Matthew Decker. . The stage adaptation will feature music and Oscar-winning lyrics by Justin Hurwitz, the film’s composer and two-time Academy Award winner. and Tony-winning writing team Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

The movie, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, followed an aspiring actress and a jazz musician as they pursue their dreams in Los Angeles. The film won Oscars for Best Director, Actress in a Leading Role, Production Design, Cinematography, Original Score and Original Song.

The deal was negotiated by Braun, EVP of business and legal affairs Eva Feder and Loeb & Loeb’s Stefan Schick for Lionsgate.
