LIV Golf Tour clears 100 percent of CW stations
Well here it is: All CW franchises have agreed to air the 2023 LIV Golf League season. The network made it official today by announcing that the first official full season of Saudi-backed golf will air on 100% of CW affiliates, as well as Nexstar owned and operated stations in key markets including Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Tampa and more. Hartford.
“As The CW Network prepares for the first live sports broadcast in its history, we are thrilled to bring this innovative and reimagined competition to viewers across the country,” said Dennis Miller, President, The CW Network. “Leveraging the nationwide reach of our affiliate partners as well as the strength of Nextstar stations, The CW has positioned itself as the broadcast destination for live mainstream sports for many years.”
Beginning with the first tournament Feb. 24-26 in Mayacoba, Mexico, all 14 Global LIV Golf League events will air Saturday and Sunday from 1:00-6:00pm ET on the CW Network’s linear and digital platforms, with Friday rounds on the CW app. All eight US-based tournaments and six international events will be broadcast across the United States and streamed live on The CW app, which has been downloaded over 90 million times and is available on all major platforms.
The golf tour, featuring Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, Louis Oosthuizen and Bubba Watson, has been criticized for its efforts to improve the image of the Saudi royal family in terms of human rights. Galagali LIV is funded by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund and offers huge purses to professional golfers leaving the PGA Tour.
The LIV on-air announcing team will include analysts David Feherty and Jerry Foltz in the booth, as well as Arlo White leading play-by-play and Dom Bullett, Su-Ann Heng and Troy Mullins providing coverage on the course and in the features section.
