Exclusive: Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho is producing in association with ZQ Entertainment god’s country — is a new genre film starring scream VI’s Melissa Barrera, who will make Egor Abramenko’s American directorial debut (Sputnik)
Barrera will play a young Salvadoran woman who visits her fiance in Kentucky in the film, due this summer. What he uncovers is something sinister beyond comprehension, as his American dream turns into a nightmare of biblical proportions.
Will Sudik (Westworld) wrote the script. Reeves (batman) and Rafi Crone (Stories from the loop) of ZQ Entertainment’s Ara Keshishian and Petor Zakl (who financed development), Adam Kasan (End of viewing), and Barrera. WME is the overseas representative and co-represents domestic rights with CAA Media Finance, and will pitch the project to EFM.
“Egar is an exciting emerging talent, and I’m thrilled to be making a monster movie together,” Reeves told Deadline.
Abramenko is a Russian filmmaker who made his feature directorial debut with sci-fi horror Sputnik. The film’s release at IFC Midnight in 2020 was interrupted by the Covid pandemic, the film won critical acclaim and received several major award nominations, including the Critics’ Choice Super Award in 2021. The filmmaker’s other works include shorts passenger, capsule And Polaroid love.
Barrera is best known for his turn in Paramount/Spyglass scream Reboot, John M. Chu’s adaptation of the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical at height Warner Bros. and for HBO Max and acclaimed Starz series Vida. He will be seen later Scream VI, which is out March 10; Sony Pictures Classics’ Carmen With Paul Mescal; and the Anthony McCurtain-scripted feature cooperationBased on the acclaimed play.
6th and Idaho was recently produced starring Robert Pattinson batman, co-written and directed by Reeves for Warner Bros., grossed over $770MM worldwide and was nominated for three Academy Awards. Reeves is currently writing Batman — Part II For release in 2025; His 6th and Idaho banner is about to enter production batman spinoff series Penguin, starring Colin Farrell for HBO Max. The company’s other notable projects include sci-fi thrillers Mother/Android For Hulu, Ordinary Joe For NBC, Stories from the loop For Prime Video and upcoming features lifting For Netflix.
Among the first projects of former CAA agent and producer Ara Keshishian’s company, ZQ Entertainment, was an adaptation of a John Grisham book. Calico Joe Along with George Clooney and Grant Heslove’s Smokehouse, with Clooney directing. The company is partnering with Anonymous Content on the upcoming book The devil’s playbook, written by Lauren Etter, now a former Bloomberg reporter, about the rise and fall of the Joule vaping company. Also in development is a series with Simon Kinberg and Stephen King, based on King’s short story “Obits.”
