‘Mean Girls’: Avantika, Christopher Briney and Babe Wood Board Paramount Film Based on Tony-Nominated Musical Adaptation
Exclusive: Avantika (senior yearChristopher Briney (Summer I turned beautiful) and Babe Wood (Love, Victor) starred in Paramount Pictures’ film adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway hit, mean girlswhich itself is based on the classic Paramount comedy of the same name.
The actors join an ensemble for the Paramount+-bound feature that also includes Angory Rice, Renee Rapp, Auli Cravalho and Jakel Spivey, as previously announced.
Original film adapted by Tina Fey from the book by Rosalind Wiseman Queen Bees and Wannabes Follows high school freshman Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) as she tries to fit in with her A-list girl clique, The Plastics. The attempt goes awry when Alpha Plastic mistakes Regina for George’s ex-boyfriend Aaron. Premiering on stage at the National Theater in Washington, DC in 2017 and jumping to Broadway the following year, mean girls The musical was also written by Fey, with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin.
The new film stars Rhys as Cady, Avantika and Wood will play Regina’s plastic cohorts Karen and Gretchen, with Briney as Aaron.
Arturo Perez and Samantha Jane are directing from a script by Fee, with choreography by Kyle Hanagami. Broadway Video founder Lorne Michaels is returning to produce with Fey, backing the original film. Erin David, Caroline Maroney and Micah Frank are overseeing the Broadway video and Eric Gurian and Jeff Richmond for Little Stranger.
Avantika recently played the lead role in Screen Gems Horror horrorscopeFrom filmmakers Anna Halberg and Spencer Cohen and the Prime Video series, Innocent. He became the first Indian American lead in a Disney Channel Original Movie with 2021 spin and previously starred opposite Rebel Wilson in the Paramount-produced comedy senior year, which was the #1 movie worldwide on Netflix when it was released last May. Avantika is currently developing an adaptation of the New York Times bestseller series Crown of wishesWith plans to produce and run the star.
Brown is best known for his role as Conrad Fisher on Amazon’s hit series Summer I turned beautiful, which returns for a second season this year. The actor recently made his film debut opposite Sir Ben Kingsley in the Mary Harron drama, Dollyland.
Wood recently starred in Hulu’s hit YA dramedy series Love, Victor And as seen in the series Real O’Neills (ABC), The New Normal (fox), 30 Rock (NBC), See father running (in Nick A Night), Wet Hot American Summer: First day of camp (Netflix) and American Housewives (ABC), to name a few.
