‘Parasite’ Producer Barunson E&A Berlin to Launch Sales of Kim Ji-Wun’s ‘Cobweb’, Starring Kang-Ho
Korea’s Barunson E&A is the production company behind the Oscar-winning drama parasiteKim Ji-woon is starting international sales the cobwebStarring Gun Kang-ho at the upcoming European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin
The star-studded black comedy-drama marks the fifth on-screen collaboration between the song (parasite, broker) and director Kim, whose credits include gritty noir A bittersweet life (2005), revenge thriller I saw the devil (2010), ‘Kimchi’ Western The good, the bad, the weird (2008), Period Spy Action Age of Shadows (2016), and the recent AppleTV+ series Dr. Brain (2021).
Set in the 1970s, an era where censors dictated the size of a film’s plot, the cobweb Gunke stars as an obsessive director on a mission to reshoot the ending of his latest film, the cobweb, to create a masterpiece in two days. His efforts are constantly thwarted by the censors and his confused and uncooperative cast and crew.
In addition to the song, the star-studded cast includes Im Soo-jung, who worked with Kim in the 2003 horror A story of two sistersOh Jung-se (It’s OK to be OK), Jeon Yeo-bin (Vincenzo) and young idol Jung Soo-jung (sour sweet), who plays a young rookie on the doomed set.
Produced by Anthology Studio, Barunson Studio and Luz y Sonidos, the cobweb June is in post-production since 2022 and will release in 2023.
Korea’s Finicut will direct the film’s French-speaking territories.
Barunson E&A launched its international sales division at last year’s American Film Market (AFM), with Yoonhee Choi overseeing all Korean and international operations as managing director and Sylvi Eunyoung Kim as head of the international division.
