Picture Tree International to launch Mark Rothemund’s father and son autism, soccer club comedy-drama ‘Weekend Rebels’ at EFM; Unveiling the first picture

Exclusive: Picture Tree Int’l (PTI) has started sales in Germany Sophie Scholes – Last Day A heart-warming family drama from Oscar-nominee and hitmaker Mark Rothemund Weekend RebelsInspired by the true story of a father who formed a special bond with his autistic son through his search for the perfect soccer club.

The film, currently in post-production, is produced by Justina Muesch, Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann.

Their Oscar-winning banner Wiedemann & Berg Film Company has distributed several award-winning films over the years the lives of others, never look away And who am i. Co-produced by Seven Pictures Film.

Leonin Studios is on board and will release the film in Germany on September 28, 2023.

Florian David Fitz (Welcome to Germany, Vincent wants the sea) leads the German cast as a father who approaches his 10-year-old autistic son to find a soccer club they can support together, in exchange for the boy putting more effort into school.

The boy demands to see all their 1st, 2nd and even 3rd division clubs play at their home ground before making his decision.

His criteria are also strict: the chosen club must not have a silly mascot, must be environmentally sustainable, must have handicap-accessible toilets, must not have Nazis among its fans, and players must not wear very colorful shoes.

The ongoing comedy-drama is based on the true story of Mirko and Jason von Zutterzenka, which they revealed in their book We Weekend Rebels. The screenplay was written by award-winning Richard Cropp (Cleo, 4 blocks, Para – We are kings)

Credits include popular German actor Fitz Welcome to Germany, Vincent wants the sea And he recently acted Oscars ClueAs a man whose young son wants to be a girl, which grossed $4.7M in the fall

Other cast members include Eileen Tezel (7500, Germany: Welcome to Germany), Joachim Kroll (All about me) and newcomer Cecilio Andresen as Son.

Award winner Pagan Peak cinematographer Philippe Peschlow is in charge of cinematography.

PTI will show the first promo reel for Weekend Rebels at EFM and has released a first before the market.

Rothemund achieved his international breakthrough in 2005 Sophie Scholl – Last Daywhich won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlinale and was then Oscar-nominated.
