‘The Winter King’: Bad Wolf and ITVX round out cast on Arthurian legend drama, filming wraps

Exclusive: Additional cast members have been revealed for the first series of ITVX winter kingProduced by His Dark Materials And Who is the doctor? Bad wolf in outfit.

Based on Bernard Cornwell Warlord Chronicles, the series, which has just finished in the UK, stars Ian de Caestecker as Arthur Pendragon. It follows the exploits of Pendragon as he goes from outcast to legendary warrior and leader.

Eddie Marsan stars as High King Uther, Eli James Nimmo and Nathaniel Martello-White as Merlin.

The new cast includes Jordan Alexandra (Mammals) as Guinevere, “the devoted, beautiful and ambitious exile-princess of Hennessy Warren”; Steven Elder (the king) as Bishop Bedwin, “the deeply kind and affectionate bishop of Dumnonia”; and Andrew Gower (outsider) as Sansum, “the fanatical novice of Bishop Bedwin, who exercised great influence over the Christians of Britain”.

Also joining is Annerine Hughes (dream horse) as Gorfydd, “the ruthless leader of the Powys, the traditional enemy of Dumnonia”; Emily John (my police) as Ceinwyn, “the sought-after princess of Powys”; Tatjana Nardone (the devil) as Ladwys, “a wild heathen and warrior, and rebellious lover of Gundleus”; and why naosu (Killing Eve) as Sagamore, “a fierce warrior who is Arthur’s friend and brother in arms”;

Billy Postlethwaite (Chernobyl) will play Cadvis, “a wise and intelligent warrior-king with a devoted tribe”.

Produced by Bad Wolf with One Big Picture and distributed by Sony Pictures Television, ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill is overseeing the commission and production of the drama on behalf of ITVX.

Kate Brooke and Ed Whitmore adapt Bernard Cornwell The Warlord Chronicles And will executive produce. Lead director Otto Bathurst will executive produce with Toby Leslie. Executive producers are Julie Gardner, Lachlan McKinnon, Sherry Marsh, Shelley Browning and Kenneth Browning. The show is produced by Katrin Louise Defies.
